Septic Service in Navarre

Navarre grew from a small beach stop into one of the largest communities in the Panhandle, and much of that growth came fast. Septic properties here deal with sand, high water near the Sound and a lot of homes changing hands.

About Navarre

Navarre is an unincorporated community in Santa Rosa County, about 25 miles east of Pensacola and 15 miles west of Fort Walton Beach, roughly centered where U.S. 98 meets State Road 87 (Wikipedia: Navarre, Florida). The Navarre CDP counted 40,817 residents in 2020, up from about 1,500 people in 1970. Many residents are military personnel, civil servants, retirees and defense contractors, and Navarre Beach has about four miles of Gulf frontage. Spanish explorers recorded the area in 1693.

Growth and older systems

Rapid growth left Navarre with a mix of homes on sewer and homes on septic, built over several decades. Systems installed during earlier waves of growth are now old enough to need attention. If pumping records are missing, the U.S. EPA's three-to-five-year guidance is a reasonable starting point (U.S. EPA, how to care for your septic system).

Sand and the Sound

Lots south of U.S. 98 near Santa Rosa Sound tend to be low, sandy and close to groundwater. Heavy rain and tropical systems tracked by the National Weather Service (National Weather Service Mobile/Pensacola) can raise the water table quickly, and drain fields there feel it first. Raised and mound systems are common.

Rentals and moves

Military orders and vacation rentals mean frequent changes in who is living in a house. Leave a short note for tenants about what not to flush, and see the septic habits guide. When buying, plan a septic inspection with the general home inspection.

Nearby

Gulf Breeze is west along U.S. 98, Milton and Pace are to the north, and Perdido Key is at the far western end of the coast.

Asked and answered

Septic questions from Navarre

  1. Is Navarre on sewer or septic?

Both exist. Many neighborhoods have sewer, while others, especially older or more rural ones, use septic.

  2. Do mound systems need special care?

They rely on a pump and alarm, so keep power to the pump, respond to alarms and avoid driving on the mound.

  3. How often should a rental home septic be pumped?

Often more frequently than a typical household, because occupancy and habits vary.
