About Molino

Molino is a census-designated place in Escambia County with 1,296 residents in the 2020 census, up slightly from 1,277 in 2010 (Wikipedia: Molino, Florida). The census counts all of it as rural. The CDP covers about seven square miles, almost all land, and it is part of the Pensacola metro area. Cantonment lies to the south along Highway 29.

Rural lots, rural systems

Out here, septic is not the exception; it is the plan. Lots are larger, which makes room for a drain field, but it also means tanks can be far from the house and hard to find. Older properties sometimes have an abandoned tank from an earlier home. If you are not sure where your tank is, a locating visit is often the first step. Old tanks that are no longer used should be properly abandoned so they do not collapse.

New homes on old land

Replacing a mobile home with a site-built house, or adding bedrooms, can change the system size the permit requires. Florida's onsite sewage program reviews new systems and modifications (Florida Department of Environmental Protection, Onsite Sewage Program). Before excavating, Florida law requires contacting Sunshine 811 to locate buried utilities (Sunshine 811).

Wells and septic

Many rural homes here also have private wells. Florida's rules set minimum distances between drain fields and wells. When planning a new system or a new well, keep both on the same site plan.

Nearby

Cantonment is directly south, Ferry Pass lies farther south toward Pensacola, and to the east across the Escambia River are Pace and Milton.
